 Kuelap: Pre-Columbia Odissey. To reach Machu Picchu, the Lost City of the Incas, visitors take a train journey through the spectacular scenery of the Urubamba Valley.  You can choose either to make a day trip from Cusco or to stay in the on-site Sanctuary Lodge Hotel, in the lovely Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel down in the valley, in the Machu Picchu Inn or in hostels in the village of Aguas Calientes and prolong the delights of visiting this unique place. 

High on jungle-covered hilltops, Machu Picchu was never found by the Spanish conquerors and many parts of the ancient city remain to be discovered. Energetic visitors can climb the heights of the nearby Huayna Picchu for fine photographs of the archaeological wonder and surrounding countryside.  The even more energetic can hike the five-day Inca Trail connecting Cusco with Machu Picchu.

CUSCO AND MACHU PICCHU WITH OVERNIGHT AT THE SACRED VALLEY

Day 1: PREVIOUS DESTINATION - CUSCO 
Reception at airport or train/bus station and transfer to hotel. Morning at leisure to adapt to the altitude. In the afternoon, guided visit of the four ruins nearby, the Sacsayhuaman Fortress, overlooking the city of Cusco, a pre Inca architectural masterpiece; Kenko, a rock sanctuary whose main attraction is a monolithic altar representing a puma, the red Fortress of Puca-Pucara and Tambomachay, a beautiful fountain fed by a spring forming a series of basins continue to the city of Cusco: the Main Square, the Cathedral and the Koricancha or Temple of the Sun. Overnight at hotel

Day 2: CUSCO - SACRED VALLEY 
Shared Services on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays only
Breakfast at the hotel. Full day excursion to Urubamba the Sacred Valley of the Incas and Pisac Market. Visit the village of Pisac, founded during Colonial times, set at the foot of a hill crowned by the remains of an Inca city. Tue., Thu. and Sun.  in the main square, Indians barter their products and artisans from all over the area sell their woven alpaca wool blankets and ponchos, engraved gourds, antique reproductions, jewellery, etc. On Sundays it is also the meeting place for Mayors from all the villages in the region, dressed in their traditional costumes to attend morning mass. After lunch visit to Ollantaytambo, the only Inca town which is still inhabited, and explore the ruins which tower above it. Accommodation in selected hotel in Sacred Valley. 

Day 3: SACRED VALLEY -
OVER NIGHT IN MACHU PICCHU
Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to Ollanta rail station, departure by train to Aguas Calientes, at the foot of the Machu Picchu ruins. Minibus up to the ruins and guided visit of Machu Picchu, which is totally built of stone blocks, fitted with masterful precision. This fabulous city has houses, temples, warehouses, a large central square, all connected by narrow roads and steps, and is surrounded by terraces cut into the mountain side which were used for agriculture. Lunch at Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge.
In the afternoon check in at your selected hotel. Overnight in Machu Picchu  at Sanctuary Lodge 5*, Pueblo Hotel Lodge 4*, or Aguas Calientes hotels 3* & 2*.

DAY 4: MACHU PICCHU CUSCO
This option can be combined with any tour of Cusco. After a magical, relaxing night at this unique  top of the world site, a continental breakfast. Free time in the morning to visit again, at your one pace, the citadel of Machu Picchu (admission not included), In the afternoon, return to the city of Cusco. Accommodation.

DAY 5: CUSCO - NEW DESTINATION
Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to the airport, train or bus station.
